Release Day Reflections – July 24, 2025
Today has been overwhelming—in the best way possible. I’m filled with so many emotions: excitement, gratitude, nervousness… all of it. I woke up early this morning just thanking God, praying over this day that has finally come. July 24th. My book is officially published and live on Amazon.com. I can’t believe I’m saying that—my book is out in the world!
When I got to work, I couldn’t help myself. I logged on right away to see if everything was live. And when I saw it, my anxiety went through the roof. I already had most of my social media posts prepped, but I still had to update everything with the live links. My heart was racing, my hands were shaking—I had to tell myself to calm down and just take it one step at a time.
Once I got everything updated, I emailed my friends and family the new link. Then it hit me—I had to tell my coworkers, too. One of them walked past my office, and I tried to share my news, but I was so nervous I completely blanked on my own poet name. I had to repeat it two or three times before I got it right! I can’t remember the last time I was this nervous speaking in front of someone. Back in college, I did presentations all the time, and even at work I have to speak to groups, but this is different. This is me talking about my work, my emotions, my poetry. It just feels more vulnerable.
And now, reality is setting in: tomorrow I’ll be reading one of my poems out loud at a coffee shop. I haven’t performed in over 10 years, so I picked one of the shortest poems from my book and I’m just going to see how I do. Honestly, I’m nervous, but I’m also ready to just go for it.
One thing I’m really excited about is connecting with another poet who will also be reading tomorrow. It feels good to step back into that poetry atmosphere again, to be around creative energy like that.
Wish me luck—you’ll definitely hear from me after the event. Who knows, you might even get a video of my performance!
I want to say thank you to everyone who’ve, purchased, spread the word, congratulated me on my new book.
