I can’t believe it’s already November — this year flew by! October ended on such a positive writing note. I still have the writing bug, at least when it comes to journaling and creating poetry.
Last month, I wrote five new poems for my upcoming book and started brainstorming creative ways to introduce Volume 2 to the world next year. It feels good to be back in that creative flow again.
Promoting my poetry gift on social media has definitely been an adventure. I’ve been experimenting with different ways to increase my followers and engagement. It’s tricky trying to gauge people’s attention spans — it’s like that saying from Project Runway: “One minute you’re in, and the next day you’re out.”
Lately, I’ve been posting lines from my poems with matching graphics and music, sharing clips of myself reciting verses, and even joining Kehlani’s “Folded” challenge by writing a poem to her instrumental. The views have been good, though of course I’d love to see them grow even more. Interestingly, with all the political chaos happening right now, my more socially conscious pieces have been getting the most traction — which tells me people are paying attention.
But truth be told, it’s not always peaches and cream with my writing. I write what’s on my mind and how I feel in the moment — raw, honest, and unfiltered. I know I’m growing each day through my poetry, and honestly, I’m just grateful to be writing again after five long years of writer’s block.
Even though I had a few poetry events lined up, I had to reschedule some because life was life-ing the heck out of me. Still, I’ve committed to a few more poetry events before the year ends to stay focused on this creative journey.
November, let’s make it memorable — one poem, one post, and one breath of inspiration at a time.
Until Next Time,
Passionate Poet that Spits Fiya
