A Poet’s Wrap-Up: May 2026

May has come and gone, and I finally had a chance to reflect on some of the activities I participated in throughout the month.

One of the highlights was attending Write Now, a one-day writers workshop held in the Raleigh area. On May 16th, I had the opportunity to meet fellow writers from a variety of genres and at different stages of their writing journeys. Despite our differences, we all shared one common goal—to grow and evolve in our creativity.

The workshop offered several inspiring breakout sessions, including topics such as writing with emotion, writing your truth, submitting work to major publishing houses, and overcoming writer’s block. By the end of the day, I left feeling motivated, energized, and eager to put pen to paper.

Throughout the month of May, I also spent a significant amount of time working on my upcoming second poetry collection. Editing, formatting, and structuring a book is no small task, but I have enjoyed every step of the process. I am especially excited about this project because it reflects how much I have grown as both a writer and a poet. Every revision brings me one step closer to sharing this new chapter of my creative journey with the world.

To close out the month, I attended the Reggae & Rum Festival in Durham. It was a beautiful, hot Saturday filled with great Caribbean music, delicious food, and, of course, free rum and whiskey tastings. Hundreds of people gathered at Mystic Farm & Distillery, setting up tents and lawn chairs while enjoying the festive atmosphere. The combination of music, culture, community, and sunshine made it the perfect event to help kick off the summer season.

As I look ahead to June, I am grateful for the opportunities to learn, create, and connect with others. Here’s to another month of growth, inspiration, and putting words on the page. I’ll be back soon with more updated content.

Until next time, keep reading, keep writing, and keep finding your voice.
