February didn’t just pass through me…
it performed.
It was a busy poetry month — the kind where your spirit stays stretched, your notebook stays open, and your voice refuses to sit still.
I stepped into Ozland Open Mic at 101 Kitchen in Raleigh on a Thursday night — yes, a work night — and baby, the place was lit. Energy humming. Snaps flying. Words floating heavy in the air. I had the honor of reading “Erase the Proof, Not the Impact” in celebration of Black History Month, and I also shared a self-love piece, “What Speaking Up Leaves Behind.” Both poems landed exactly where they needed to.
I also fed my craft by taking a Line of Sight Poetry Workshop — a beautiful space where visual art meets the poet’s mind. Where paintings whisper and poems answer back. Where imagery stretches beyond the canvas and into the chest.
And to close the month, I stepped onto a stage in Durham, NC for a Poetry Slam. The theme? Love and relationships. Let me tell you — the poets came ready. Fire in their throats. Truth in their stanzas. I brought a new piece titled “Behind the Masks,” speaking on my experience of meeting someone whose portrayal of self just didn’t wear right on them. Sometimes the costume slips. Sometimes intuition whispers before truth screams.
I was knocked out after the first round.
But here’s what matters — I showed up.
And I am proud. Proud of myself. Proud of every poet who gathered the courage to stand in front of a crowd and let their voice tremble into power. There is something sacred about that kind of vulnerability.
February didn’t just keep me busy.
It kept me bold.
More words are coming.
Always Stay Poetic,
